Doesn’t he look comfy?
Calvin, our loyal dog, was very happy to find a place to beat the heat — if only for a few days.
Our Kubota is open-air with no doors or windshield, but it needed to go to the shop for a few days of repairs. We use it for hauling bottles of milk, pails of grain, and hundreds of gallons of water to our calf hutches everyday, plus numerous odds and ends. It simply isn’t an option to be without it.
Here’s our trusty Kubota:
During the repairs the shop borrowed us the Kubota in that first picture. It has doors, cloth seats, a radio, and…. heat and AC!
Gosh that dog loves AC. After his initial distrust of its new smells, he fell in love with the cool cab. He’d scamper in each time someone started it up, and when they got out he’d stretch out to his full length and cover both seats.
It’s a rough life Calvin leads. 😉
Alas, the fancy Kubota had to go back when they returned ours. Calvin had to content himself with just riding around in vehicles again. Because we bring him to and from the farm everyday he’s a great commuter and rides well. He got to go with when I helped JR get some of the big hay bales we baled from the field a few nights back.
He loves watching outdoor activity and basking in the cool. Don’t get me wrong — he enjoys running around in the tall grass and rolling in the dirt too. He just gets warm easily and likes to take cool breaks often.
Last week in the super hot weather I was moving a new calf and Calvin tagged along to help. I set the baby on the soft (dry) ground for a minute while I got his hutch ready. Instead of scaring the calf and barking crazy like normal, Calvin surprised me. Perhaps he was too hot to bother with barking. Mellow and panting, I think he made a friend.
It really is a dog’s life he leads… whatever that means!
