A’ La The Sound of Music

Greetings from 15 degree Minnesota, where it finally feels like winter. We’ve got snow on the ground, and I wedged my get-a-grip ice spikes on over my running shoes this morning. Ahh, winter.

So we all have things we love, right?

Favorite stuff that just makes us happy or brings a smile to our face when we think of it. Maybe it’s the simple stuff that we take for granted most days.

Whatever it may be, it’s our favorite.

Over on “Life, Really” a few days ago Kathy shared a link up about her Favorite Things.

I thought this was cool not only because it gives a neat look into a person’s life, but it’s also a fun way to find out about cool stuff to try. She linked up to Danielle’s blog for this post, and I’m going to do the same.

Here we go…

My little family

Just JR, Calvin the dog, and me. It would be hard not to start out my list of favorites with these guys.

Speaking of my running shoes and ice spikes…

I’m quite happy with the Mizuno Wave Rider 15, which I just started running in last month. After about 100 miles of wear and tear they are still feeling like new. And when snow and ice are covering the roads, my get-a-grips are a lifesaver!

I am a major food fan. Yes, I love food. It’s hard to narrow it down, so I’m going to share several favorites:

— milk (usually white 1%)
— Hershey’s chocolate syrup (to make chocolate milk!)
— pizza
— fresh, ripe peaches
— coffee (strong and black)
— dates with cream cheese
— Greek yogurt and fresh fruit
— chocolate
— stir fry vegetables
— sharp cheddar
— red wine, lately Malbec is my favorite
— ribeye steak, grilled medium rare
— giant Mexican salads with everything
— Italian pasta dishes
— pie

If I made this list everyday I’m sure it would be slightly different each time, but these are some definite winners.

Many of the other favorite lists included fashion and beauty stuff. I’m not much of a fashionista and I don’t wear much makeup these days, but I still have several favorites I can offer.

–Calvin Klein skinny jeans. I bought these on mega clearance for $20 at the outlet last year, and they are the first pair I’ve owned since probably grade school. Love them with boots or ballet flats.

— Dove body wash, deodorant, shampoo & conditioner, etc. Fairly cheap and quite effective.

— Cover Girl mascara. Yes, I’m still a teenager with my makeup choices. I’ve tried a few spendy brands, but I almost never get a tube of Cover Girl I don’t like.

Other fun favorites

Song – Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey
Movie – Breakfast at Tiffany’s (though I do like The Sound of Music )
Sport to play – running (does that count?)
Sport to watch – tie between baseball and running/track & field
Color – yellow
Color to wear – pink
Color for a car – red
Place I’ve traveled – Rome
Book – The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis
Childhood book (that I still love) – Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
Clothing store – Banana Republic (outlet)
Flower – white lilies
Type of pie – strawberry rhubarb
Cocktail – vodka tonic
Breed of cow – I can’t choose
Running shorts – Nike Tempo
Blog reader – all of you!

“…and these are a few of my fav-o-rite things.”

Are you hearing Julie Andrews right now?

Have a great weekend all. Hope it’s filled with your favorite things!

I bet this was a difficult post to write. I would have trouble getting it narrowed down to just a few favorite things.

  2. All of my makeup is CoverGirl. it’s cheap and it works. šŸ˜‰ I haven’t seen Breakfast at Tiffany’s but that’s one of those classics that I would like to see sometime. Thanks for sharing! This was fun to read – I didn’t know you’ve been to Rome (jealous!)

I am going to have to steal this post, too! How fun to learn those things about you!

Lilies are my favorite flower, too–I carried them in my wedding. But my favorite color is green and my favorite to wear is black. :^)

  4. Danielle says:

Love your favorites! Your little family is so cute! šŸ™‚

I love that you listed out all your faves….

And can I just say, anyone who has to wear grips on their shoes to run through snow/ice is my hero. I was such a baby about training in the “cold” (30’s!). Makes me feel like a wimp!
